So let’s take a look at my living room bookshelves, shall we? In amongst the volumes of African fiction and non-fiction, political science, voluntary simplicity and environmentalism, biography, classics, personal essays and creative non-fiction (much of it travel literature), there’s Tales of Female Nomad by Rita Golden Gelman (hardcover). Maryland high school students are not college ready in math. More specifically, in 2006-2007, 30% of “college prep” students and 42% of Montogomery County graduates needed remediation in math. That’s kind of breathtaking. The only consolation is that the rest of Maryland did even worse. But that’s what the Baltimore Sun reported this morning in [...]

Independence. Self reliance. Maturity. Chutzpah. Since school has finished, the girls have been “unprogrammed” [...]

Just saw that I missed the announcement. MCPS has filled the board vacancy left by Nancy Navarro, who has joined the County Council. There were five candidates: former student member of the Montgomery County Board of Education with degrees in business and public administration a parent advocate and volunteer with degrees in nursing and business [...]
More Cowbell. Not.

Ugh. Cowbell? And people think I’m nuts when I talk about [...]
