The other day I marked a first–my first Obama dream. Husband Dear has been out of town for the past week, and so as a special treat M. has been bunking with me. I was working on all of 2 hours of sleep (I know, crazy…) when M. woke with a start. “It’s 6:30!” she exclaimed.
Damn. The alarm hadn’t been set. C.’s bus arrives at her busstop at 6:30. I would have to drive her. And it’s not close.
But what’s more, my lovely dream had been interrupted. In it, I was with several other people in what might have been a white walled courtyard. We were mingling–when President-elect Obama arrived. I went up to him, shook his hand (very soft). I told him I empathized with the difficulty of his school decision for his daugthers, and that both schools, Sidwell and GDS, were excellent. He smiled warmly and we kind of had a parenting bonding moment. He then had to board a plane and was gone, leaving behind me, some random others–and C. and M.’s third grade teacher–to watch the plane soar overhead. And then I woke up.
Weird.
It turns out I’m not alone. There is–of course–a blog devoted to this: I Dream of Barack. The CBC even did a story about it: The Politics of Dreaming. There are also I Dream of Hilary, I Dream of McCain and I Dream of Both blogs. Didn’t turn up any I Have Nightmares about Palin blogs, snicker. But oops! I typed that too soon! Because Slate.com did a whole story on the topic: Your Dreams (and Nightmares) about Sarah Palin
I’ve never dreamed about George Bush. But I do know I’ve dreamed about Bill Clinton. Not in that way, mind you.
I once had a dream about Michelle Obama. We were talking about mail-order towels, of all things. It may sound like the dullest dream ever, but I remember it as being quite pleasant.
Anyway, I just now looked up dream interpretations on towels, and found the following: “To see or use a towel in your dream, suggests that you need to deal with your emotions in order to move forward in your life. You need to find some sort of a resolution. Alternatively, it represents completion, a fresh start and new transition.”
Sounds good to me.
I’m with you. Go with the “fresh start!”
